Little did I think when we translated San Diego's "Like a Sheep"
(
http://www.fascicle.com/issue03/poems/eritrean5.htm) that it would
lead to this:

The segment appeared on Swiss (French?) TV. The singer approached me
about a poem for her to make into a song after she saw the anthology
Who Needs A Story. I told her that San Diego's poem was sardonic and
then some.. And then..

LIKE A SHEEP
Translated by Charles Cantalupo & Ghirmai Negash
Led with a rope around his neck,
He blindly followed the trader
And the butcher and blithely thought
Of grazing in a new country.
They gave him their official seal
And off he went, but they forgot
Or lost his documentation,
Which he never bothered to get.
Now he is stuck. What will he do?
Are they his biggest problem?
Back home he's forgotten.
He forgets where he is, too.
