Sudan minister’s chopper burns

KHARTOUM - Sudan’s agriculture minister escaped with minor injuries but
three others on his helicopter were killed on Monday when it caught fire
after takeoff, the official news agency reported. The dead included the
flight engineer, the minister’s spokesman and a senior research official,
SUNA said. Three other members of Agriculture Minister Abdel Halim Ismail
al-Mutaafi’s staff were injured and taken to hospital, it added. “The
minister of agriculture was rescued. He was injured but not seriously,” the
report said. Fire broke out after the chopper took off from a town in
Gedaref state, which borders Ethiopia and Eritrea.
