THE EEBC DECISION TEN YEARS LATER AND ETHIOPIA'S ILLEGAL OCCUPATION:
THE LEAGUE OF NATION REDUX

By Berhe Habte G.

The United Nations, African Union, and the international community in general, have refused to enforce the decision of the Border Commission to force Ethiopia to withdraw from Eritrean territory. They are thus accessories to violation of international law. The purpose is to keep Eritrea and its resources tied to the border areas. They hope that this will create frustration in the young people, destroy the morale of the population, and dissipate the country's resources. Failing to achieve their goals, these organizations have tried to cripple Eritrea by imposing a sanction based on fabricated charges that were never substantiated. All indications are that Ethiopia is not only emboldened by the support it gets, but it is egged-on to take more aggressive stance against Eritrea. The Ethiopian regime, obedient to its masters, is stepping up its aggression against Eritrea. It even openly declared that it will seek regime change in Eritrea. The Eritrean people are once-again faced with a threat to their survival as an independent nation. They are fighting the only way they know, and which has worked for them staying united. As for the rest of the world, sixty-seven years later, Hitler and Mussolini must be smiling in hell seeing that their ideology of "Power" being everything has succeeded and become the guiding principle of the world. The UN is following the path taken by the League of Nations - into the dustbin of history.
