Today thousands of Eritreans descended on the historic Fort Hunt Park
located in Alexandria, Virginia, to take part in the Annual Eritrean
Independence Day Picnic. Starting 9:00 AM in the morning and going to the
late afternoon throngs of families streamed in into the park in a turnout
that seems to have rivaled previous years. Under sunny skies braving
scorching heat and suffocating humidity families camped out under shades of
gigantic trees enjoying great food and the opportunity to interact with
fellow Eritreans.
The Annual Independence Day Picnic is one of the most anticipated Eritrean
events in the Washington DC area and has consistently drawn thousand s of
families every year.
