Ethiopia: Potential evidences show Central Government's presence behind
Oromoo-Gumuuz conflict
Published 07/19/2008 - 1:14 p.m. EST
The conflicts between Oromoo and Gumuuz in Eastern Wallaga have been
possibly incited by the Central Government of Ethiopia, says Dr Marara
Gudina, the Chairperson of Oromoo People's Congress.
"Weapons used by the Gumuuz ethnic group are possessed only by the
Ethiopian government, and are taken from government military stores.
Moreover, the days before the conflict there were government military
and policemen near the conflict area."
Dr Marara says his party asked the government during the parliamentary
meeting to set up investigation team to look into the cause and present
situation of the conflict. "However, the Ethiopian government hasn't
responded to our request."
Furthermore, Dr Marara told Jimma Yeroo that the government report has
understated the total number of deaths.
According to Dr Marara, the real cause of the conflict is not reported
by the government 'even' two months after the conflict. "All these
indicate a possible government involvement in the conflict," says Dr
Marara.
