27-07-2009
APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) At least 13 Ethiopians died on a train
accident in the eastern part of Ethiopia while travelling to Djibouti,
the Ethiopian police said on Monday.
The train incident, which also resulted in 20 people receiving serious
injury, occurred when the train derailed and turned over while it was
approaching its destination in Djibouti.
Those injured people are getting medical treatment in Dire Dawa, in
eastern Ethiopia.
Police said that the train was on its way from Dire Dawa to Djibouti
carrying coffee and other comodities.
The city of Dire Dawa, located some 525 kilometes east of Addis Ababa,
is known for its close business ties with neighbouring Djibouti.
Ethiopia and Djibouti are linked by a railway which was built by the
French government about 100 years ago.
