NOTE: Eritrea's U-17 team was placed in Group C with defending champions
Burundi, African giants Egypt and Rwanda - by far the most difficult of
the three groups for the August Cecafa under -17 Challenge Cup
tournament. The tournament will take place in in three Sudanese cities
between August 19-30.
Following is the draw for the tournament:
Group A: Sudan, Nigeria, Tanzania, Somalia
Group B: Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Zanzibar
Group C: Burundi, Egypt, Rwanda, ERITREA

Hippos to be based in Juba

Uganda's U-17 team, Hippos will be based in Juba, Sudan during the
forthcoming Cecafa under -17 Challenge Cup (Hassan el Bashir Cup) that
starts later this month.
Nicholas Musonye, the secretary general of the Council for East and
Central African Federations (Cecafa) told Daily Monitor yesterday after
making the draws in Nairobi that the tournament to attract 12 nations
will take place in three cities between August 19-30.
The Ugandan team currently training will be based in Juba is pooled
alongside Kenya, Ethiopia and Zanzibar in Group B, while hosts Sudan
will have Nigeria, Tanzania and Somalia (Khartoum), while Group C in the
city of Wadmadeni will have Eritrea, Rwanda, Egypt and the defending
champions Burundi.
Guest sides Nigeria and Egypt will be using the event as part of their
preparations for the U-17 World Cup to be held in Nigeria in November.
"We are therefore confident that the presence of the guest sides will
help spice up our competition," said Musonye.
He added that facilities at the three venues were inspected last week
and found to be okay.
The first opening ceremony will be held in Khartoum on August 19 while
another one will be in Juba on August 20th where the First Vice
President Silva Kiir is expected to attend.
According to Cecafa, all teams and officials are expected to be in
Khartoum by August 17 to facilitate the medical and cooper tests for the
21 referees and assistant referees. The tests are set for August 18.
The regional body Cecafa, Sudan Football Association and the Sudanese
Government will cover all the expenses including air fares,
accommodation and local transport for all delegations and officials
during the competition. This is to the tune of US$700,000.
