US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s statement concerning Eritrea is disappointing and the new US Administration’s option to get dragged into a quagmire in Somalia is surprising: Mr. Ali Abdu

The statement of Ms. Clinton is very disappointing and the reasons as to why the new US administration has chosen to drag itself in the quagmire in Somalia is astonishing to say the least, Mr. Ali Abdu said to Al-Jazeera in a televised interview this evening.
Asmara, August 7, 2009-In an interview he conducted with the BBC and Aljezeera last night, Mr. Ali Abdu expressed disappointment over the statement made by US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton concerning Eritrea. He further underlined the Eritrean government’s surprise with the new US Administration’s option to get dragged into a quagmire in Somalia.
Mr. Ali noted that due to the interference in Somalia by previous US Administrations over the last 19 years, the Somali people have developed deep hatred towards the United States. Stating that this has in turn complicated the Somali issue in particular and that of the whole region in general, he emphasized that the Government of Eritrea is deeply concerned and surprised with the new US Administration’s failure to learn from the mistakes of the previous Administrations in Washington.
Indicating that the people and Government of Eritrea will not cease their political support to the Somali people under any circumstance, Mr. Ali Abdu asserted that on the contrary they will enhance such support. In this respect, he pointed out that the Eritrean government strongly reminds Washington to refrain from meddling in Somali affairs.
