Prime Minister welcomes the first ambassador of the Republic of Serbia
and new ambassador of Eritrea in Thailand (8/8/2009)
On 7 August 2009, Mr. Alem Tsehaye Woldemariam, Ambassador of the State
of Eritrea, called on the Prime Minister on the occasion of his
assumption of duties.
The Ambassador expressed determination to move the relations forward
during his term, including to expand people-to-people linkages and
relations. The Ambassador briefed the Prime Minister on the political
and economic situations in other African countries.
Both sides discussed potential Thai assistance to Eritrea in areas such
as technical cooperation, technology, agriculture and natural resources,
which Thailand is keen.
The Prime Minister expressed the vision to increase trade, investment
and tourism between both countries. He also mentioned that the Board of
Investment is the main agency responsible for coordinating Thai
investments abroad, including new investments and emerging markets.
The Prime Minister wished the Ambassador every success in working with
Thailand.
In solving the challenges facing Thailand, the Ambassador believed that
it is important for the people to be determined and united.
On 6 August 2009, Mr. Zoran Kazazovic, Ambassador of the Republic of
Serbia, visited Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on the occasion of his
new appointment at the Ivory Room in the Thai Khu Fha building.

The Prime Minister congratulated and welcomed Mr. Kazazovic on his
position as the Serbian ambassador in Thailand. The Prime Minister
acknowledges Serbia's attention to the importance of Thailand and hopes
that this appointment will lead to good relations between Thailand and
Serbia.
The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and said that
he considered this position to be of high honor. The Ambassador had had
the honor to have an audience with the Crown Prince of Thailand.
The Ambassador took this opportunity to express his commitment in
deepening the relationship between Thailand and Serbia, especially in
areas of the economy, trade, investment and tourism.
The Prime Minister expressed readiness for Thailand to cooperate in the
area of tourism, which the Prime Minister observed had decreased in
comparison to the last two years.
The Prime Minister also supported the Ambassador's idea to prepare a
draft an agreement on the economy, trade, and investment.
Both countries also expressed interest in cooperation in fields of
agriculture and education, which Thailand and Serbia had had close
relations in the area of education in the past. There had been an
ongoing educational exchange between the Prince of Songkla University
and the second ranking University in Serbia.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the Ambassador will
strengthen and expand Serbia's cooperation with Thailand, which would
help link the peoples between the two nations.
