U-17s beat Ethiopia in opening tie

Uganda's U-17 national side, Hippos started their Cecafa -Bashir Junior
Challenge Cup campaign on a good note with a 4-0 victory over Ethiopia
last evening in Juba, Sudan.
Julius Ssenoga gave the Hippos a 1-0 lead in the first half before the
2007 runner's up returned strongly to score three more un-replied goals
past the Ethiopians.
Dan Sserunkuma, Abdallah Mukammed and Ismeal Kambugu netted the other
goals for coach Richard Wasswa's boys who now lead Group B ahead of
their two remaining games in the preliminary round.
Action returns today with three games on card in Juba, Khartoum and the
city of Wadmedani. Hosts Sudan will be up against Tanzania, while
Somalia will take on Malawi and Eritrea take on Rwanda. The Kenyans will
battle Zanzibar.
The Sudanese President Gen. Omar El Bashir has injected US$700,000 in
the event that will see the winner bag US$15,000, the second placed
US$10,00 and the third placed US$5,000.
