Over the last few years Eritrea has embarked into the Mining sector with the potential of growth and impact on its economy. It is also striving to enhance its energy needs in order to enhance investment in its manufacturing sector. Obviously, this will have an impact on the environment. The links between the growing mining industry and energy as well as the environment need to be looked at both strategic and operational levels. To date Eritrea has developed a policies and pragmatic approaches towards addressing these challenges of development and sustainable environmental management.
The Eritrean professionals Network (EPN) in the UK will discuss the timely strategic issues of mining, energy and the environment. The EPN in its 2nd thematic presentation aims to create exchange of ideas on these dimensions and trigger some research, assessments and further discussions which could promote investment and recommend practical measures of addressing the challenges.
This thematic forum will:
Share current thinking on how to develop alternative energy and how it can be used effectively to improve the environment in the Eritrean contextLook at the practical implications of the mining industry as a tool to ensuring economic developmentExplore the challenges for environmentally friendly mining and energy development both as commercial and social marketing enterprises Allow delegates to discuss and raise questions with experts on the key challenges in taking the Eritrean Research and Development Network forward
