The Polish national basketball team has been strengthened after American
Thomas Kelati was granted Polish citizenship.

After receiving Polish citizenship, the 28-year-old forward, who has so far
been playing for Power Electronics Valencia from the Spanish ACB league,
will now be able to join the Polish basketball league. Kelati will play his
first matches with the Polish national team in August during selections for
the European Basketball Championship.

Kelati was born in Walla Walla, Washington, but his family comes from
Eritrea. A year ago he married a Pole with whom he has two children. That is
why he decided to apply for the Polish citizenship.

Kelati began his professional career in 2005 with the Belgian club Dexia
Mons-Hainaut. Next, he moved to the Polish team Turow Zgorzelec in 2006 and
in 2008 he joined the Spanish ACB League club Unicaja Malaga. Later, he
signed for Power Electronics Valencia after being waived from the Los
Angeles Lakers.

Kelati is the sixth foreigner to play for the Polish national basketball
team. *(mg/mmj)*
