Somalia: Italian Ambassador to Somali accused of selling visas

19/08/2010

  _____

MOGADISHU(Mareeg), The Italian Ambassador to the Transitional Federal
Government of Somalia, Stefano Dejak has been accused of selling visas from
Somalis who migrate to some countries in Europe through Italy, sources told
Mareeg online on Thursday.

Fadumo Hussein, an elderly Somali woman who wanted to reunite with her
daughter in Italy said she has been going to the Embassy of Italy in Nairobi
for one year to get the process finished from the Embassy.

She said that things were not going easily and she was told finally that she
had to pay $6000 to get the process done. Fadumo said she could not pay that
amount of money and became desperate and her ambition to reunite with her
daughter ended.

Other reliable sources say there are some Somalis who pay up to $8000 to
$12000 to Ambassador Stefano Dejak personally to facilitate visas for them
and then benefit by from the chance and look for asylum in some countries in
Europe, mainly in Sweden and in the Netherlands.

The sources say Omar Faruk Osman, the Secretary General of National Union
of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), who is a British citizen and a close friend
with Ambassador Stefano Dejak connects the Somalis who need the visa to Mr.
Dejak and share the money with him.

Mr. Osman gets visa from Steffano whenever he wants to help his relatives of
migrating to some countries in Europe. Stefano Dejak has been the Ambassador
to the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia for three years.
