Uganda wins 5-4 on penalties
GOALKEEPER Godwin Buule saved a penalty while Sula Matovu scored the winning penalty as Uganda Hippos lifted their second successive CECAFA U-20 Championship trophy at Asmara Stadium in Eritrea.
In an action packed final match yesterday, Sadam Juma put Uganda in the lead but Eritrea equalised forcing the match into extra time and later spot kicks.
Buule then gave the Hippos an advantage with a fantastic save before Matovu powerfully drove a shot past Eritrean goalkeeper Samuel Alazar.
Hakim Ssenkuuma, Dennis Guma, Luwagga Kizito and then Matovu drove the final nail in the Eritrean coffin.
Hippos team manager Mohammad Faizal was all praises for the Hippos defence that kept Eritrean dangermen Abraham Tendros, Tesafalem Tekele and Meron Hebteslus out of their box.
"We have won it again. The Boys have done us proud. They played according to instruction and we are happy for the win," Faisal said.
Uganda went into the final as the most experienced side but Eritrea put up a commendable fight during their final debut appearance.
Uganda took the trophy that comes with sh22.5m top cash prize while Eritrea settled for sh11.2m. The team is expected back today.
