Since 2004, every other consecutive year, hundreds of Eritreans from the
diaspora and within Eritrea travel over 13 hours to the Eri Youth Festival,
to join their brothers and sisters who are celebrating a major
accomplishment in their lives- a year of service to their country where they
are equipped with the knowledge and the physical capability to protect and
serve their country. During this time, thousands of people are able to
interact with each other, participate in seminars held by high officials,
receive accolade for achievements in their education at the Sawa Award
Ceremony, play in sports competitions, present their research at the many
exhibits, enjoy amazing entertainment acts by performing troops &
EriArtista, and more. Drinks, food, and laughter are shared while they
mingle and get to know each other- recognizing their similarities and
differences. It is a breeding ground for new lifelong friendships.
This year's Eri Youth Festival created an energy that carried over into
Asmara and has spread throughout the Diaspora as the youth returned to their
respective cities. The strength and determination of the graduating class
resonated in the hearts and minds of those who attended their ceremony and
many have promised to return and spend more time dedicating their services
to Eritrea.
