Iran, Eritrea Stress Continued Cooperation
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian and Eritrean officials in a meeting in New York reviewed the latest developments in the bilateral relations between the two countries, and underlined continuation of their mutual cooperation in all fields.
The issue was raised in a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and his Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh Mohammed on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday evening.
During the meeting, Mottaki expressed the hope that the bilateral relations between Tehran and Asmara would continue and further consolidate, and described the expansion of cooperation with African countries as a priority in Iran's foreign policy.
Saleh Mohammad, for his part, briefed the Iranian top diplomat on the latest developments in his country which is located in the horn of Africa.
Tehran has prioritized promotion of its economic and political ties with the African states and the country is now considered as one of the African Union's strategic partners.
Tehran's efforts to boost ties and cooperation with Africa have led to its acceptance as an observing member of the African Union (AU), where it has shown an active presence in the AU summit meetings.
Earlier this month, Tehran hosted the Iran-Africa Forum. High-ranking officials from different African states attended the gathering to discuss ways to boost cooperation between Iran and the African continent.
Government and private sector officials from more than 40 African states were present at the two-day conference.
