America's "War On Democracy" worldwide. Watch full documentary film online linked here. It is a powerful new documentary film from award winning journalist and film-maker John Pilger who explores the historic and current relationship of Washington with countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile. The film is a rebuke of both the US intervention in foreign countries' domestic politics, and its war on terrorism. America's "War On Democracy" focuses on the political state of Latin America where democracy has been wiped out in country after country since the 1950s. The film "... tells a universal story... analysing and revealing, through vivid testimony, the story of great power behind its venerable myths. It allows viewers to understand the true nature of the alleged 'war on terror'. According to Pilger, the film's message is that the greed and power of empire is not invincible and that people power is always the "seed beneath the snow". Pilger aptly displays the American governments involvement in manipulating Latin Americas leadership since 1950s years. The focus on Venezuela for the first 40 minutes of the film is an interesting change from what media consumers see in the American and British owned global mainstream media. With his roots in India, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has thrown out American control in his country. He has gone a long way in convincing his neighbours in Latin America to do the same. However, the beauty of this film is much more than its discussion of Venezuela. Pilger goes through the history of several other Latin American countries weaving them into the bigger picture, thoroughly explaining many of the important details. Its rare to find such a comprehensive secret, hidden history of the US involvement in Latin America. Pilger tries establish how the system has evolved from physical control to financial control in today's era. Pilger has mastered obtaining great interviews. For example, in this film he the interviews the head former head of CIA involvement in Latin America as well as interviews an American nun who was tortured in Guatemala in 1989. The film reveals similar CIA policies to be continuing in Iraq, Iran and Lebanon. The War on Democracy, however, is a hopeful film, for it sees the world not through the eyes of the powerful, but through the hopes and dreams and extraordinary actions of ordinary people. America's "War On Democracy" is a metaphor for all the world. It should be shown in history classrooms throughout the USA and around the world.
