Asmara Geocongress 2010 took place in late September

Asmara Geo Congress 2010, sponsored by Ministry of Energy and Mines and Eritrean Mining and Exploration Companies (EMEC) , was conducted beginning from 22 to 27th of September, 2010 in Asmara, at Asmara Palace Hotel. In the opening ceremony the Director General of the Department of Mines, Mr. Alem Kibreab, made welcoming and introductory remarks to the audience on behalf of the Minister of Energy and Mines H.E. Ahmed Haj Ali. An opening address was followed by Mr. Mebrahtu Ekubazghi, Director of Mineral Resources Management.
In the 2010 Asmara Geocongress over 50 participants representing exploration and mining companies, investors, and representatives of governmental organizations and research institutes of different countries including, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UK and Australia were present. Keynote speakers, a researcher from Colorado School of Mines, USA and a Principal Scientist, GNS Science from New Zealand also participated as invited guests. Geologists from the Department of Mines and members of the exploration and mining companies currently active in the country were also present in at the event place.
In the Geocongress, papers covering exploration activities, researches, experiences of exploration and mining activities that are currently in operation in the region, and papers on financial aspects of exploration and mining projects were presented. Moreover, posters from different exploration companies and service providers were displayed at a booth space on the corridor outside the conference hall.
The Congress provided an opportunity for everyone to share and exchange experiences and ideas and to realize the potential of mineral resources of the region and in particular mineral resources potential of Eritrea. As part of the Arabian Nubian Shield, which is now becoming known for its mineral potential, Eritrea largely unexplored and with its favorable environment for investors, is attracting many exploration and mining companies.
