It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of
Senhit Yohannes Mehari tragically in the afternoon hours of Sunday , October 31, 2010 at the Health Sciences Center at the tender age of 19.Left to cherish Senhit's memory are the father Yohannes Mehari, her mother Tensaw Hagherai her brother Yonatan Mehari, her Grandma Asmeret Ghebreselassie, numerous uncles, unties, cousins and many close and loving friends.
Senhit graduated from High School at Dakota Collegiate, and was attending the University of Manitoba and taking pre-business administration courses until this terrible tragedy occurred.
Senhit was born in Winnipeg on March 27, 1991 and grew up in the St. Vital in the warmth of her loving parents and her younger brother. Senhit was intelligent, outgoing but humble, respectful and caring . Senhit was a meticulous planner, hardworking and serious about studies and all things that she wanted to accomplish. Senhit always radiated with a broad smile when approaching people and was always wanted to help others in any situations that she could, including tutoring younger students at the Eritrean Community Center. She liked to volunteer a lot and has been an active member of the annual Folkorama events representing the Eritrean Community at the Africa Pavilion and had served as a Youth Ambassador at the same event once. Senhit was always wanted to learn new things. Although she was born in Canada she was able to proudly learn her ancestral mother tongue of Tigrigna fluently. She was a member of her community church choir and had a beautiful voice. Senhit was a shining star that was an embodiment of a genuine community gem whose life was cut short way too soon. She will be sorely missed.
- A special thank You goes to the many friends from numerous communities, the young friends of Senhit and neighbours who have come and continue to come and comfort the family in this difficult moment and all the medical staff of the SICU Health Sciences Center for their valiant endeavour to save Senhit's life.
The family is also conveying a message of their condolences to the family of the 17 year friend and co-passenger that died during the accident
and is also wishing strength and quick recovery to the injured ones.
