Job Description
Responsible for the safe and effective management of a low cost gold
mine through commissioning and operations, the Mine Manager will
confidently lead the technical departments in achieving production
goals. The successful individual must show demonstrated results in
managing a team of qualified mining personnel, including a large
national workforce - either at the Mine Manager or Mine Superintendent
level. The incumbent must have the capability to stand in for the
Operations Manager when required. Previous experience in developing
countries, especially Africa, will be an asset.
Responsibilities:
Motivate and mentor an international technical team including
engineering and geology departments
Implement and monitor effective scheduling, costing, quality systems
and procedures.
Monitor contractor compliance and performance.
Develop and implement mine plans for all mining activities to ensure
optimum exploitation of the ore body and conduct audits in accordance
with mine design guidelines.
Achieve outputs of maximum tonnes and grades without compromising safety.
Control costs through effective planning and ongoing monitoring of
expenditure in accordance with the Project budget.
Develop and implement monitoring systems and procedures to ensure all
mining costs are minimised and that all adverse variations are
reported, followed up and remedied.
Create a working environment which ensures that employees and
contractors gain new skills and achieve their full potential by
developing and implementing effective training and mentoring
programmes.
Continually review every aspect of the mine department to ensure that
opportunities to add value and increase shareholder wealth are
identified and implemented.
Participate in the senior management team to ensure that targets for
resources exploitation, capital management, cost control, safety
performance, employee development, environmental management and
corporate governance are achieved.
Ensure compliance with all local country regulations
Requirements:
Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent and a
minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role.
Experience should include the successful management and the ongoing
training of an overseas local workforce.
A good mine planning background combined with strong budgeting and
cost control skills
Previous mine start up experience will be highly regarded
Good communication skills: written and oral
