KUWAIT: Investment opportunities for Kuwait's private sector in East Sudan
are abundant and recent legislation complies with the open investment trend
taken by the Sudanese government. News on the new investment opportunity was
announced at the opening session ahead of the International Donors and
Investors Conference for East Sudan hosted by Kuwait. Speeches in the
session preceding the conference were delivered yesterday at the Chamber of
Commerce and Industry.
Ali Thanian Al-Ghanem, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce welcomed the
Sudanese delegation and assured them that the Kuwaiti private sector is
interested at investing in projects in Sudan and East Sudan as long as
obstacles faced by some Kuwaiti investors there are overcame. In his opinion
new regulations are required to achieve further investment from Kuwaitis,
which could be strategically important to the country's development process.
Saud Maamoun Al-Brair, Chairman of the Sudan Businessmen Bureau, thanked
Kuwait for its continuous support to Sudan during its time of crisis and
expressed Sudan's will to attract Kuwaiti investors in East Sudan. He
explained that this area has a lot of investment potential in areas of
education, healthcare, tourism, livestock, cattle, fisheries, electricity
and several other fields.
Mustafa Othman Ismail, a Sudanese Presidential Consultant, thanked Kuwait
for hosting the conference and stressed that the newly established higher
council for investment in Sudan demonstrates that Sudanese President Omar
Hassan Al-Bashir is dedicated to removing obstacles faced by Kuwaiti
investors in Sudan. He added that the laws and legislations have been
renewed in an attempt to attract those interested in investing in tourism.
A brief presentation was made on the proposed investment projects subject to
bidding by Obaida Mohammad Al-Daj, the manager of the East Sudan
Redevelopment Fund. The presentation was followed by a documentary
introducing attendees to life in East Sudan and the nature of the harsh
circumstances many residents are living through in that area.
Kuwait is hosting the International Donors and Investors Conference on East
Sudan today and tomorrow. The event will feature discussions on several
fields of investments including tourism, fisheries, agriculture,
horticulture and livestock, industrial plants and real estate. The highly
ranked 150 member Sudanese delegation hopes to demonstrate how Sudan could
benefit from donations provided by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic
Development, a main partner of the conference, and investment from Kuwait's
private sector.
