Selam Dehai,
Ato Yohannes Tseggai Kahsu, one of the last remaining patriots of the
nationalist generation of the 1940s and 50s who steadfastly struggled
for Eritrea's independence, passed away in Asmara on 26 November,
2010. As a young man in the early 1940s, Yohannes Tseggai was
influenced by the great patriot Woldeab Woldemariam, with whom he
established a lifelong friendship and became an ardent follower and
associate, sharing his vision and aim, as well as sacrifices, for an
independent Eritrea. Patriot Yohannes Tseggai was laid to rest at
HazHaz Cemetery in Asmara on Sunday, 28 November 2010. His funeral
was attended by hundreds of family members, friends and well-wishers,
among whom were high-level government officials and memebers of the
PFDJ. Attached (in Tigrinya in pdf format) is a tribute paid to the
patriot by comrade Zemhret Yohannes, head of Research and
Documentation of the PFDJ, which was read at the funeral ceremony.
May the ideals and contribution of Patriot Yohannes Tseggai Kahsu
live forever immortal in the memory of the nation.
