A Total of 13 players of the Asmara-based Red Sea Football players are at
large after competing in the just ended Kagame Cup championship in Dar es
Salaam.
Red Sea were knocked out at the quarterfinal stage through dramatic
shootouts by eventual champions Young Africans last week.
The Tanzania Football Federation’s secretary general, Angetile Osiah, said
exactly half of the total number of players who arrived in Dar es Salaam
late last month are nowhere to be seen.
The other half of the players returned home safely as the whereabouts of the
rest is still unknown.
He said TFF is trying both ends against the middle to assist in searching
for the players.
TFF has been informed by the Red Sea officials in Asmara regarding the
missing of the 13 members of the team.
The shocking revelation for the missing players has dented the Kagame Cup
organizers who looked well set to end the tournament with unblemished
record.
Osiah said the Council of East and central Africa Football Associations
(CECAFA) and TFF have been happy with the degree of organisation attained
during the championship.
The TFF boss also expressed satisfaction of attaining close to 90 per cent
of footing the tournament accruals.
He said the degree of success has been heavily contributed by fans who took
trouble to turn up at the National and Jamhuri stadiums to watch the
tournament procession.
Meanwhile, the Kagame Cup has been successful in terms of gate collection as
an excess of one and half billion shillings were realized in all matches.
Of the about, the final match contributed in excess of 354 millions when
city rivals Young Africans and Simba attracted spectators who filled the
entire 60,000 seats of the National Stadium.
