A Delightful Sunday AfternoonWith the President of the State of Eritrea. On Sunday September 25th, thousands of Eritreans from all over the United States, Canada and Europe came to New York City to welcome the President of the State of Eritrea, His Excellency Essays Afeworki. The much anticipated face-to - face meeting with the president was electrifying. It was also noticeable that the charismatic president of Eritrea was flabbergasted by the warm welcome he received from his people. The face-to-face meeting between the diaspora and the president of the state of Eritrea was long overdue. As he was entering the Manhattan Center meeting hall, the emotion that was exhibited by those who came to honor him was extraordinarily high. At that point, it was obvious that the energetic crowd was gearing up for a delightful Sunday afternoon with the beloved president of the state of Eritrea. The warm reception and the standing ovation lasted for a while and people had to be told to be seated. Clearly, those who came to honor the president are well aware of the qualities he possesses and remain persuaded that his hard work and dedication is what Eritrea needs at this critical juncture and his leadership is the key to Eritrea’s national security and economic prosperity. This was validated as people got up one by one and candidly expressed their appreciation for his dedication and hard work during the struggle for independence and for the past 20 years as the nation was provoked by her enemies, especially in the past thirteen years. It has become habitual in this type of gathering that Eritreans must honor their martyrs. Before the seminar initiated, the well-known musician and our dear friend, Tesfamariam Kidane played the very famous tune known to all Eritreans as “Fanoseye“. He played the sweet melody with his saxophone in utterly quite ball-room with full of people whose emotion was running high as they listen to the sweet melody. One can’t help it but overwhelmed by emotion listening to the tune. While people were collecting their emotion, the hosts were preparing the crowd to the ensuing program. Of course, no one forgets the poem prepared and read by Ayakhun Kidanemariam with such intensity and powerful voice. The audience was very much moved by those who came to honor Eritrea and express their love for their country using their God-given talent. The crowd was communicated with Tigrigna, Arabic and English. The Committee that was responsible for organizing the event has done a remarkable job. With such short notice, the committee was well-prepared and did an extra ordinary job of handling the task, and for that, they absolutely deserve our gratitude. The future generation:What made the event more charming was the genuine fondness articulated, by youngster Dawit Daniel, towards the president. It was very refreshing to hear Dawit, whom most of us found him to be a bright young kid and a very funny one, sharing his knowledge about the struggle for independence and the history behind it. The intelligent youngster with bright future showed unbelievable confidence on the stage as he was lecturing the audience about the history of Eritrea and complimenting the president and the leadership of Eritrea for their achievements and steadfastness. While youngster Dawit was praising the president and his colleagues and tells the audience how proud he is of his president and the government of Eritrea, the audience continued to be riveted by his ability to tell a story without the help of prepared notes. It is expected of a polite audience to give a round of applause to a very good speech or to a very good story and, perhaps, a story teller. Youngster Dawit Daniel was able to do it all; and for that, he received a well-deserved standing ovation!! Our national anthem: The three most beautiful Eritreans and talented sisters sang our national anthem in a perfect pitch and harmony and made the event more indulging. The event continued with the president giving the audience the state of the union and the economic and political challenges the nation is facing followed by the president taking questions from the audience. As the president continued to talk about Eritrea’s economic potential, the audience was responding with round of applause and acknowledging the nation’s bright future. Given the distance the vast majority of the audience traveled to participate in this historic day and the long hours it had to wait in line to get into the gathering place, the level of energy remained high during the seminar. Both the audience and the president were not prepared to call it a day. Unfortunately, for the audience, the meeting had to end. Fortunately, those who came from all over the United States and had to travel back home were rejuvenated for their long trip back home. Last but not least:What makes Eritreans unique is their love for their country and their boundless respect for, those who paid the ultimate price to protect and preserve our independence, our Martyrs!! During this historic day Eritreans in general and those, who gathered in New York City in particular had to pay their respect to the untimely death of Gilai Bekurazion, who came to New York City as the member of the president team. May God bless his soul!Eritrea shall prevail! Yohannes KifleYcry98@yahoo.com
