Pana 27/10/2011
Eritrea-Sudan-Border - Sudanese president Omar El-Bashir has expressed the willingness of his country to eliminate the common borders with Eritrea, saying 'I have come here to underline Sudanese readiness to see a total removal of the borders between our two countries.' El-Bashir was speaking Wednesday at the Kasala stadium shortly after ceremonies inaugurating a 26-kilometre road that links the two countries. El-Bashir said afterwards that 'all security concerns between the Sudan and Eritrea are now over and forever.' The ceremony was also witnessed by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, whose country financed the road project to the tune of US$ 9 million.
The official Sudan News Agency, reporting from Kasala, said the Sudanese, Qatari and Eritrean leaders met near the Sudanese boarder with Eritrea, in a tripartite summit on relations between them.
In an address, President El-Bashir commended the role played by Qatar, not only in providing financial assistance to the Sudan, but also in hosing the peace talks that culminated in the signing of the Doha Darfur Peace Agreement.
El-Bashir was quoted as saying that both Qatar and Eritrea were the first countries to invite him to visit their capitals despite the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants on him.
After issuing an arrest warrant on El-Bashir in March 2009 for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, the ICC issued another warrant on 12 July, 2010, this time for genocide committed in Darfur.
