*Eritrea 1-1 Rwanda*** This clash between Eritrea and Rwanda brought
together two of the Cecafa member sides, with only one of them able to
progress to the group stages of World Cup qualifying.
Surprisingly for many pundits, it was the home side that took the lead in the 35th minute, and the Amavubi found themselves on the back foot. They regrouped at half-time, however, and soon after the restart the visitors found an equaliser, which would prove to be the final goal of the game.
The 1-1 scoreline will have pleased the home side, who will go into the second leg in Rwanda with a sense of belief, and the pressure will be on the Amavubi to dispatch of their fellow east Africans at home.
