Dear Eritrean,
As you are aware, the United Nations Security Council has just imposed another sanction on Eritrea this month know as Resolution 2023 on top of the one (Resolution 1907) they have imposed just two years ago. We are also aware that the UNSC's decision to impose these two illegal and unjust sanctions was driven by the evil effort of Susan Rice and Meles Zenawi, using the so-called Monitoring Group's report as a pretext. But regardless of how we feel about the illegal and unjust sanctions against our country or even the conspiracies concocted behind closed doors for the UNSC decision, the damage is already done. So let's proceed to address what needs to be done from this point on.
Inform, inform, inform:
In my opinion, the most and foremost task that we (especially those with access to the internet) must take it upon ourselves is to immediately act to inform those majority of Eritreans who may not have time or access to the internet and learn more about these sanctions and how they may affect our country as well as our citizens. you will be surprised to learn that too many of our good citizens think that these sanctions are the END of our country because they have been either ill-informed or never got the details of the sanction. It is true that additional sanctions have been imposed against Eritrea but it needs to be understood that it was not the original draft that Susan Rice and Meles sought in the beginning, instead it is a so-called "watered down" version of the resolution that has been imposed. As it can be recalled, the original version of the draft had specifically targeted the mining sectors as well as the voluntary 2% Diaspora remittance but the "watered down" versions essentially removed these provisions as a compromise between the divided Security Council members. So, one can say that the "watered down" version is nothing but a "toothless" hyena. So this means that Eritrea will continue to explore its God-given resources in Bisha and other areas unabated and her children will continue to remit voluntarily whatever they feel it is their National obligation.
But we have to be careful because this doesn't mean that we can sleep at night unprotected even though we know that the Hyena is toothless. The so-called "Somalia-Eritrea Monitoring Group" needs to be legally monitored and checked against its mandate as well as any documentation it drafts before it makes to the UNSC desk; Susan Rice should not be allowed to short-circuit the process just to satisfy her egotistical appetite; Meles Zenawi cannot continue to fabricate and forge documents; and for God sake, may the Lord inject some dignity on those sellout African leaders so they don't have to be the next messengers of the Evil. But far as Eritrean and Friends of Eritrea is concerned what they have to do now is:
Sign, sign, sign the White House Petition:
https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/petition/block-push-strengthen-existing-sanctions-and-lift-sanctions-were-imposed-eritrea/YjjGRqKK
As many are aware, the Eritrean MeKete team has setup a petition drive on the White House website with a well-written document. My understanding is that the petition will require the authentic signature of 25 thousand names by December 31, 2011 in order for the petition to be "addressed" by President Obama. Unfortunately my quick glance at the current number of signatures is now only a little bit more than 4 thousand. Given the cumbersome nature of signing this White House petition page and the lack of pumping up the volume by the organizing committee, I am now beginning to be pessimistic about the Petition reaching the required number of signatures unless there is some sort of Divine Intervention. I have no doubt that the Organizing Committee of this Petition is working hard, so may be if we all take it upon ourselves to make an extra effort to call all our friends, relatives and neighbors to go ti the link on Dehai and go through the signing process, maybe we can reach that magic number of 25 thousand signatures around Christmas... That would be a great National gift.
Awet nHafash,
Haile A.
