Invitation of Eritrean Intellectuals: Weyane's Desperate Move
[Abotatnas Kmslu Khelewu-"kab Mehros Aemro!! yblu" ybehal.]
Indeed, it's with a mixed feeling of shame and sadness to hear that
certain Eritrean intellectuals have made a rather unintelligent and
regrettable move and honored Weyane's invitation to the Ethiopia's
capital to participate in a meeting funded and organized by the said
regime.
In the recent months and to this day, the Ethiopian regime has been
increasingly restless with developments unfolding in its neighboring
country to the north - Eritrea. In sharp contrast to what the TPLF
regime and its collaborators had eagerly anticipated and with a twist
if irony, Eritrea is reportedly making major strides in improving its
economy and upgrading its healthcare and education services across
the country. It's also raining and raining plenty. And, such news
indicating positive economic outlook and the country's bright future
is giving the junta in Addis Ababa a major headache.
It's within such pretexts that just in the last few months alone, the
regime in Addis Ababa has made some serious accusations against
Eritrea which, as any logical person can concur, are nothing beyond
been hilarious. The so called "bombing plot" at the African Union
summit; the fabricated reports linking Eritrea to Al-Shabab are but
pure political ploys to tarnish Eritrea's image. The ultimate
objective is, of course, to slow down if not totally abort the rather
impressive economic advancement the country is registering by
imposing a sanction on its mining industry.
One does not need to be an intellectual to see that economic
empowerment is a basis and an important step with which a country can
build a strong and viable democratic society. Then again, we have
long discovered that lofty and attractive words like "Democracy" and
"Human Rights" have simply become political tools with which certain
countries have and continue to dominate the resources of the world.
If history is any guide, the previous Ethiopia's rulers had never had
any good will towards the Eritrean people. The current leaders in
Addis Ababa are no different. To these elites, the case of Eritrea
has never been about democracy or system of governance. The repeated
injustices of the Emperors, Mengistu and, now Meles against the
people of Eritrea for almost half a century was and still is
primarily due to their greed and unfulfilled thirst to occupy our
land. The old Amharic saying..."ERTRA MERIETWA ENJI HZBWA
ALASFELGENM!" was the motto the consecutive Ethiopian rulers used to
fulfill their expansionist dreams. Indeed, the illegal territorial
ambition and obsession still remains the sole reason for their wicked
attitude and awkward behavior towards Eritrea.
Therefore, Weyane's call of a meeting by inviting certain Eritrean
intellectuals selectively is ill-conceived and would only benefit the
narrow minded, tribal regime in Addis Ababa and a few of its greedy
sellout servants. Aside from the reported reason given, the ultimate
goal of the meeting called for is quite clear for anyone with average
intelligence. And, the establishment of a peaceful, stable and
prosperous sovereign Eritrea is not one of them.
Actions speak louder than words.
Weyane's actions for the past thirteen years clearly reveal that the
regime has no genuine good will towards the Eritrean people. In spite
to the crocodile tears it's shedding, throwing some lofty words like
"democracy", Weyane's agenda has always been totally opposite to what
the people of Eritrea aspire for. While events unfolding will clearly
not allow it to see materialize, Woyane's dream has been and still is
to see the disintegration of Eritrea; create a new geopolitical
atmosphere whereby it could fulfill its expansionist dreams.
The Eritrean people in general and the intellectuals, in particular
have been at the receiving end of Weyane's malicious attacks ever
since the 1998 unprovoked "border" war. Back then, intellectuals who
criticized the regime's stance on the conflict; those who expressed
strongly against weyane's deportation of 80 thousands Eritreans from
Ethiopia in a most inhumane way; individuals who vehemently condemned
Weyanes refusal to abide by the internationally endorsed EEBC ruling
have been the primary target and were verbally harassed and intimidated.
So, what prompted Weyane to start loving these groups suddenly? And
the most important question people are pondering with is: Putting
Ethio-Eritrea geopolitical history in perspective, how is it
conceivable that the intellectuals" Muhurat" who honored the
invitation believe that anything positive that serves Eritrea and
Eritrean interest will come out of the so called "meeting"? Did it
ever occur to these invitees that such call by the blood-thirst
regime is politically motivated with evil agenda and has nothing to
do in search of their "expertise" in whatever has been discussed?
Negating certain level of moral responsibility they should uphold as
Eritrean citizens and prompted by pure hatred, some "intellectuals"
are bowing down to the demand of Eritrea's sworn enemy and are on the
verge of making a major historical error. Since they're "educated"
and have full access to all the sociopolitical events unfolding
around the world, the invitee intellectuals must be aware of the evil
schemes and political ploys the Ethiopian regime have been engaged
with in destabilizing the Horne of Africa countries, including
Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia. Expecting anything positive to come out
of the TPLF agenda is nothing more than fooling one's self.
Lastly, let's not allow the TPLF regime use Eritrean people,
irrespective of their academic credentials and ideological
persuasions, as political tools to achieve its expansionist dreams.
We should also strongly condemn those nationals who are, wittingly or
unwittingly, going along with Wayne's "song" and calling for sanction
to harm Eritrea's economy. In the wake of the recent Wiki Leaks
released in which Ethiopian regime is implicated in a number of
terrorist activities, including the 2008 Addis Ababa bombing for
which it blamed OLF members and others , it's high time that the UN
Security Council remove Eritrea from the sanction list based on
fabricated and unfounded reports.
