Al Bashir Meets Salva Kiir in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa – President Al Bashir received this evening at his stay in
Sheraton Hotel, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, his Southern Sudan counterpart Major
General Salva Kiir Mayardit, on the sidelines of the African Summit.
The two presidents discussed a range of issues related to the future of
relations between Sudans. The meeting included Staff Lieutenant General
Bakri Hassan Saleh, Minister of Presidency, First Lieutenant General
engineer Abdel Rahim Mohamed Hussein, Minister of Interior, Ahmed Karti,
Minister of Foreign, from the Sudanese side, and Pagan Amum and Deng Alor,
from South Sudan’s side, according to Sudan News Agency (SUNA)
The agency reported that the last part of the meeting was confined to the
presidents Al Bashir and Salva Kiir after the members of delegations got
out.
“The meeting between the two presidents was held in a pure Sudanese manner
without any mediation,” Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ali Karti said in
statements to SUNA. “This meeting assisted in overcoming previous stage and
that the present stage requires building confidence and ways of debating
pending issues between the two countries.”
Karti said the meeting would help negotiators in both countries overcome
many obstacles – at least psychological obstacles which hampered reaching
solutions to the problems between Sudan and South Sudan.
“Discussion between the presidents was cordial, frank and tackled obstacles
negotiations have faced; besides problems Sudan is encountering due to
South Sudan’s hosting of a number of armed movements,” said Karti.
Meanwhile, the two teams to the negotiations left Addis Ababa to Bahar Dar
to continue the talks according to the agendas agreed on.
