Giving Hands conducts 50 delicate surgeries in Eritrea

WAM Asmara, 11th Dec. 2008 (WAM) -- pediatricians of the UAE Red Crescent
sponsored ''The Giving Hands Initiative'' has conduct 50 complicated
surgeries on underprivileged children suffering from congenital deformities
in the digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems.
Prof. Michael Geber, Director of Teaching Hospital, Asmara, where these
surgeries were performed, said the team of world prominent doctors had
diagnosed delicate cases and cured them especially among children in the age
group 1 to 3 years.
He added the mission underlines the proper care the UAE lends to
humanitarian and charitable works and delivery of preventive and curative
programmes for poor and needy population across the globe.
He expressed his hope the team would pay a fourth visit to Eritrea in the
next year as thousands of poor patients are in need of such health care
services.
The voluntary team, made up of pediatricians from the world's most
recognised hospitals, will perform tens of surgeries on children affected by
congenital deformities and other health problems whose families could not
afford high costs of treatment.
