Third China-Eritrea film week kicks off

The third China-Eritrea Film Week kicked off yesterday 14 October at
Cinema Asmara in the presence of ministers, PFDJ officials, China's
ambassador to Eritrea, diplomats and invited guests.
 
 Chinese film, 'One Person's Olympic,' was presented in Tigrinya. The
film depicts the first Chinese athlete's experience joining the 10th
Olympics in the United States (Los Angles) and the hardship he faced due
to the war in his homeland and the journey to the States. He finally
made it and became the first and only Chinese to participate in the 1932
Olympic Games.
 
During the opening event the head of the Research and Documentation
Centre at the PFDJ, Mr. Zemhret Yohannes said that arranging a film week
is an expression of the cultural relationship between Eritrea and China.
"The Chinese Embassy has helped many of our cultural projects. In the
last four or five years the Chinese assisted important cultural projects
in Eritrea," he said.
 
Stating that the Eritrean film industry being small, has to go a long
way to reach an acceptable stage and what has been done so far is
establishing a strong base for a national film development for the
future. "The film industry plays an important role in nation building
and sharing cultural experiences," Mr. Zemhret said.
 
"We welcome any country who wants to have cultural exchange and a film
week like this one with Eritrea," he underlined.
 
During his opening remarks the Ambassador of the People's Republic of
China, Mr. Li Liansheng, said that the moment shows the cultural ties
between the two countries and wished an enjoyable week.
 
The Chinese have produced a number of important masterpieces for the
international audience telling the stories of their homeland and
disseminating their cultural perspectives.
 
The China-Eritrea Film Week which would be open to the public from 15 to
20 October is expected to display six Eritrean and six Chinese films.
