State Dept. Announces Open Skies Air Services Agreement with Uganda
The U.S. signed an open skies air services agreement with Uganda Oct. 27 at the U.S. Trade and Development Agency's Conference on African Aviation. The agreement entered into force upon signature.
According to a State Department notice, open skies agreements eliminate government interference in the commercial decisions of air carriers about routes, capacity and pricing, freeing carriers to provide more affordable, convenient and efficient air service for consumers. As a result, these agreements, of which the U.S. now has nearly 100, have vastly expanded international passenger and cargo flights to and from the United States, promoting increased travel and trade, enhancing productivity and spurring economic growth.
