Proving the Negative

Written by Abeba Isahac

How many times does Eritrea have to tell the whole world, at least the
belligerent ones who are itching to pick a fight with her, that it does not
supply the Somalis with weapons, nor does it send its men to fight for them
in the battle field. They tell us that they have evidence, but up to now we
have seen no such thing. So, what is one to do?

I met someone the other day, who is sympathetic to the woyane leader, who
told me that they found dead Eritreans between skirmishes. When I asked him
how he knew, because many Somalis very much look like Eritreans, he said
they found documents and pictures on their person. Who is to believe that?
Clandestinely sending your men to fight another war and stuffing them with
evidence and identities is not a good idea. And it is not the Eritrean
style. Anyway, even that proof we did not get to see, if at all it
exists. It is all hearsay, which, in the real world, no court would allow
to hear..

What is the US Motto with regards to the law? Innocent, until you have been
proven to be guilty. But until today we have seen no evidence of what they
say Eritrea is guilty of. It is something like the Weapons of Mass
Destruction (WMD) which they claimed Saddam Hussein had. They even went to
the extent of putting the Secretary of State, Colon Powel, to stand before
the United Nations claiming that they had proof – when they knew very well
that there was absolutely none. So they went and destroyed Iraq, supposedly
based on that lie, and then, after eight years had elapsed, told the world
they had been mistaken, all the same, of course, patting themselves on the
back, for having gotten rid of Saddam Hussein, because he was bad to his
people, although this is not why they went in in the first place.

Lest we forget, it was supposed to have been about finding the terrorists of
9/11. Those terrorists had never lived in Iraq, but rather in Afghanistan.
Nevertheless, based on all those lies, the United Nations took it all in
stride, afraid to say anything. But on the other hand, when it comes to
tiny nations like Eritrea and Somalia, it starts to throw all the books at
them, and flexing its muscles, and screaming, at the top of its voice, for
sanctions, based again on yet another lie.

Haw could the world, so quickly, have forgotten that? And this is what they
want to do with Eritrea. They want to find some fault and later apologize
for it after the damage has been done. As they often do with friendly fires.
The secret behind all this, is that, they had left an unfinished business in
1991 with Saddam Hussein, after having acted indifferently when he told
them he was going to attack Kuwait, and after having met with their
approval, as soon as he started the war, they betrayed him and began to
interfer in the Gulf War. In that war too they had made up a false story,
about killing babies in incubators, when later it was found out that the
person who was accusing them was the daughter of the Kuwaiti Ambassador. All
based on lies and made up stories.

Likewise, they did not finish the job they had started in 1997 to 2000 on
behalf of the woyane. What did they gain from Iraq this time around, except
hundreds of dead American soldiers and millions of Iraqis, not to mention
the displacement and lack of security. And what will they gain from
sanctioning Eritrea except show to the world, who is in power. Otherwise, if
there is any truth in what they say, then show us the proof first before
the sanctioning begins. And the United Nations seems to have no teeth in the
matter except to echo what is said from the USA and the Western world,
whether it be true or otherwise.

I read an article the other day from a Somali who was fighting with the
kangaroo government of Somalia. He got tired and fled his country to come
to the West. He said that; indirectly it was the United States of America
who was supplying the ammunition to the opposition. How? Well it is a well
known fact that through Ethiopia, America is supplying all the ammunition to
the Kangaroo government that the west had set up outside the country. Now
some of the Somalis get tired from the war and want to leave, therefore,
instead of returning their guns and ammunition to the existing government,
they give it (or sell it) to the opposition. Who knows, some of them even
switch sides just to get to the American ammunition from the Ethiopians.
And who knows some of it is even exchanged by the Ethiopian soldiers
themselves in order to gain money. Ethiopia we all know receives millions
of dollars just for ammunition. If we are to speculate, we might as well
speculate this which makes more sense anyway.

So when there is already so much ammunition changing hands within the
country itself, and when there is suppliers like Israel who likes to sell to
African countries in turmoil, what possibility does Eritrea have either
economically or even clandestinely, slipping in ammunition or soldiers, when
France and the USA are right at their door step monitoring every move they
make.

So, rather than be sanctioned, it would have been easier for Eritrea to
stop. But it is difficult to stop doing what in the first place you were not
doing at all. So we shall continue to see the charade go on, and the
African nations continue to play in the game for the little alms they
receive from the west. But most of all, it makes one wonder, what it is
that America actually wants from the small nation of Eritrea. We might not
know the whole story, but America did get something out of Iraq. Perhaps it
is helping the gun and ammunition industry get richer, which seems
farfetched but is something that the USA has done in the past. And there
could be much more which we are not aware of. But something we should
definitely be sure of is that, it is not about transfer of ammunition or
soldiers. Because, like the hidden WMD of Saddam or babies in incubators in
Kuwait, this too did not happen. Who knows? Time will tell.
