*1941 - *Disney's animated feature Pinocchio is released in Eritrea (a
country in Northeast Africa).
*1944 - *Mouseketter Lynn Ready - a member of The Mickey Mouse Club during
the 1956-1957 season - is born in Dallas, Texas.
*1948 - *Disney's Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey and the Seal is released.
Directed by Charles A. Nichols, it features the voices of James Macdonald
(as Mickey) and Pinto Colvig (as Pluto). It will be nominated for an Academy
Award.
*1953 - *Walt Disney writes his annual birthday letter to his sister Ruth
(who will celebrate on December 6). His words include: "I am hoping you will
use the enclosed check for yourself - something that you might particularly
like to have and let it be my birthday gift to you." He goes on to apologize
for not being home when Ruth and her son came to visit during the past
summer. Walt writes of his recent trip to Mexico and his Disneyland project.
*1961 - *The NBC-TV series Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color airs "A
Fire Called Jeremiah" (the 10th episode of the eighth season).
*1965 - * Writer, voice actor, director, and animator *Andrew Stanton* is
born in Rockport, Massachusetts. His Disney/Pixar credits include WALL-E,
Ratatouille, Cars, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo (for which he won an
Oscar), Monsters, Inc., Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, and Toy Story.
*1985 - *Dumbo becomes the third "Walt Disney Classic" to be released on
video.
*1987 - * Actor *Michael Angarano* - Will Stronghold of Disney's 2005 Sky
High - is born in Brooklyn, New York.
*1994 - * Actor *Jake T. Austin* - Max Russo on Disney Channel's Wizards of
Waverly Place - is born in New York.
*1999 - * Disney Legend *Joe Fowler* (a retired U.S. Navy Admiral) passes
away at age 99 in Orlando, Florida. Retired from Disney since 1978, Fowler
oversaw construction of Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
*2001 - *It is reported that the Walt Disney Internet Group will make
popular Disney characters and songs available on AT&T Wireless phones for
the first time in the United States. (Disney-branded ring tones and graphics
were first offered in Japan back in August 2000.)
*2002 - *Disney releases Mickey Mouse in Black & White under its Walt Disney
Treasures banner. The 2-disc DVD collection contains 34 of the original
black & white Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts starting with Steamboat Willie
(1928) and ending with Mickey's Service Station (1935). Other Walt Disney
Treasures released on this day include The Complete Goofy and Behind the
Scenes at the Walt Disney Studio.
*2003 - *It is announced that the Walt Disney Studios have made industry
history by becomming the first company to surpass $3 billion in global box
office receipts in a single year.
*2003 - *Roy E. Disney is interviewed on CNN's Paula Zahn Now show. He
speaks out on what he says is the downfall of his uncle's entertainment
empire and his battle against current Disney CEO Michael Eisner.
*2004 - *Taping begins in Florida for the 2004 Walt Disney World Christmas
Parade (to air on ABC-TV December 25).
*2005 - *Disneyland's first Candlelight Processional of the season takes
place with narrator & Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke.
