TOUR DE ERITREA BECAME UCI RECOGNIZED INTERNATIONAL CYCLING COMPETITION
The cycling competition "Tour De Eritrea" has been recognized for the first time by the international body UCI(Union Cycliste Internationale) or International cycling Union. From now on it will be an international competition and many riders from other countries will ride along the Eritreans. This years, riders from Morocco, Kenya, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Saudi Arabia and reportedly two national teams from Eritrea will take part.
The cyclists are in Keren to inaugurate the first phase that covers from Keren to Mendefera of about 150km.
An Australian coach Mr. Radek Valenta will be heading the national cycling teams of Eritrea together with assistant coaches Desale Negash and Yonas Zekarias.
About $1700 USD was invested to buy six new of the latest bicycles with their spare part to boast the performance of the national team !
The Tour will cover 717 Km-long race in Five phases. The participation of six countries in the tour is expected to play a great role in boasting tourism.
Morocco and Egypt have excellent riders and will give a great competition for the Eritrean teams !
UCI has already assigned a commissioner of the tour and it is expected that "Tour de Eritrea" will be included in the UCI yearly tour calendar.
