Why are journlists, politicians and statesmen declaring the war between Ethiopia and Eritrea a senseless war, a war over barren lands, etc.?
Do they think it is sensless for a small nation to defend itself when it is faced with encroachment on its territory, regardless of whether it is barren or not? Do they believe that in the face of aggression and blatant invasion, a small nation should just lie down and be bulldozed out of existence? This war began because Ethiopia has once again embarked on its old expansionist designs against Eritrea on the pretext of a border dispute. Why dont these journalists and world politicians call a spade a spade instead of trying to appease aggression by creating justifications for the aggressor. Now they have even began to parrot Woyanes ridiculous claim that Ethiopia is not invading or has no plans to annex Eritrea, all they want is to pursue and annihilate the Eritrean army! As if that is an acceptable alternative. The Eritrean Defence Forces includes the entire Eritrean people, who are behind their government and army one hundred percent. Therefore, the present Woyane position, which clearly states that their aim is to destroy the Eritrean Defence Forces, meaning they want to destroy or subjugate the Eritrean people. Pure and simple.
All one needs to make sense of this socalled senseless war is to look back at the events of the past three years and honestly analyse the two countries positions vis a vis the peace process. Eritrea has consistently put forth an agenda for a peaceful resolution of the border conflict, albeit very cautiously, while Ethiopia has blocked the peace efforts every step of the way and has always been on a war path.
And what have the international peace brokers been doing? Playing along with Woyanes (Ethiopia's) tactics of buying time to launch their second, third and most recent offensive against Eritrea. I wonder, what the international peace brokers are going to do now that Eritrea has unilaterally withdrawn from disputed as well as uncontested Eritrean territory, for the sake of achieving peace? Are they going to pressure Ethiopia to also withdraw and accept a ceasfire or are they going to take us through another cycle of meaningless talks while Ethiopia remains on sovereign Eritrean territory and continues to pursue its war of annihalation! Well, I am not going to hold my breath. Like all Eritreans here and abroad, I know from our own recent history that in the final analysis, we are the makers of our own destiny.
