Based on varied media reports and of course as the Ethiopian Government would rather have it statements are released as "Ethiopia rejects peace proposal". When in-fact, what it has set to destroy and what it is essentially against is simply sidelining the "essence of peace" itself on the pretext of rejecting "a peace pact".
That "peace pact" was in OAU's explanation "Stressing that the ultimate goal of the process is to find a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict:".
Obviously the purpose of the "peace pact" was not to the taste of the Ethiopian minority government. The clarifications that Ethiopia asked could essentially be summarized as follows: "Just take our proposals, that is, just accept the disputed territories are in fact not disputable and are Ethiopian, let Eritrea retreat and lets call it a day". This may sound childish or even arrogant, but far from that, it is a ploy to skive away from the court of law. The peace proposals indicate that they will have to follow colonial treaties and OAU charters. Ethiopia knows as much as everybody else that these treaties and charters may and will find that the disputed territories and even perhaps further in favor of Eritrea.
Knowing all these full well, the fact that Ethiopia was willing to instigate and pursue the war can only be interpreted that it is unwilling and the minority government needs a state of confusion if it is to survive. The question remains whether the world should attempt to let it survive in such circumstances or letting it know that such evil methods of asserting ones survival are not acceptable.
It remains upon the Ethiopian people and the so-called intellectuals to come to realize the full extent what may be at stake. That is the reputation of Ethiopia, the little respect that may have been remaining of it, the positive view the world may have had in it, the sympathy it has always enjoyed from the outside world, the benefit of the doubt it has always been granted and a tarnished history of the Ethiopian people is at stake. From this day on, nobody will perceive Ethiopia as a peace loving nation, no body will see Ethiopia as a nation which stands for harmony, no body will believe Ethiopia is a country set to achieve development, no body will see Ethiopia as a nation striving to feed its own, no body will perceive Ethiopia as an entity which believes in its people, no body will accept Ethiopia as a state that strives for self-sufficiency. In short, it will be seen as a nation that is lazy, anti-peace, anti-harmony and anti-prosperity. Only the one who does not care about the country will agree with the evil policies of the minority government, which is intent on making the state a country with out respect, without allies and poor.
Now that the evil intent of the minority and manipulative government run on a four man gangster leadership show is clear, it remains the responsibility of the outside world and particularly the OAU, UN and the US to take necessary measures to curb the destruction looming beyond such evil and erratic behavior shown by the Ethiopian government. The wider effect it is having on the region can already be observed from Ethiopia's violation of Somalia's sovereignty.
What we are being faced with at this juncture is not the rejection of a "peace deal" which can always be re-shaped and restored somehow but the mere rejection of the "peace" itself. The party that rejects it must then be made to realize the consequences of its actions. Pouring tones of food and millions of dollars in the name of "relief aid" will not teach the necessary lesson.
