Eritrean Cabinet Concerned by TPLF's War Cry

The Eritrean Cabinet of Ministers issued a statement yesterday affirming the
Eritrean government's continued readiness to resolve the conflict through
the OAU peace package but noted with great concern Ethiopia's continued
intransigence and the TPLF's escalating war preparations. The statement was
released yesterday following the conclusion of the Cabinet meeting in
Asmara.

The Cabinet of Ministers evaluated what it described as "disturbing
developments in Addis Abeba." The Cabinet, in its statement, noted that the
TPLF was stalling in its acceptance of the Technical Arrangements and was
not ready to abandon its war cry. "In line with this," the statement said,
"the government calls on Eritreans to be resolute in the unflinching stance
they have shown in defense of Eritrea." The ministers further urged the
Ethiopian people not to be led into meaningless war by the TPLF regime and
called on them to give their support to the resolution of the conflict
through the OAU peace plan. The Cabinet also called on the international
community to work for the implementation of the plan and to exert pressure
on Ethiopia to that end.
