FLORENCE - Doctors at the Meyer Children's Hospital flew to Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, to train doctors at the local pediatric hospital. A project made possible thanks to the association Annulliamo la Distance, strongly rooted in Eritrea with cooperation projects. The courses were organized as part of a three-year project involving Annulliazione the Distance and the European Community. The project includes, in addition to the training of hospital health workers, the restructuring of the Pediatric Emergency Room and the supply of medical equipment and devices to optimize care services.
The courses were taught by certified instructors of the Meyer Pediatric Hospital of Florence (Cristiana Benucci and Francesco Severi) with the support of Dr. Francesco Mannelli, volunteer of Annulliamo la Distance and former head of the DEA of the Meyer Pediatric Hospital. The teachers found excellent preparation of the participants who showed great motivation and enthusiasm in carrying out the courses that included few lectures and numerous practical activities on medical procedures and simulated clinical cases with the use of dummies.
During the courses there was also the visit of the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Emanuela Del Re who spoke with the medical staff and congratulated the association Annulliamo the distance for the work that has been doing for children for over twenty years. Eritreans.
