The protests against the economic situation and high prices in Sudan yesterday spread to the two cities of Umm Ruwaba, in the state of North Kordofan, and Al-Tartar in the state of Southern Kordofan.
Eyewitnesses told the Anadolu Agency that dozens of protesters burned tyres in several streets in the city of Um Ruwaba and called for the “overthrow of the regime”.
Eyewitnesses said five protesters were injured in Um Ruwaba after security forces shot at them; they were taken to hospital for treatment.
Scores of protesters came out in protest against high prices and reduced living standards in Al-Tartar, the Anadolu Agency was told.
Since Wednesday, Sudanese cities have been witnessing demonstrations that had led to the death of eight people according to authorities. Opposition groups have said 22 people were killed.
Sudan has been suffering from shortages in bread, flour, fuel and cooking gas as a result of the rise in the dollar against the Sudanese pound.
