Somalia-Eritrea friendly Football match

15th February 2019

Mareeg.com-The friendly match between Somalia and Eritrea that was due to be played in Mogadishu this week, has been postponed, Somali Football Federation,
confirmed in a press statement on Thursday.

“The match was previously scheduled to take place at the FIFA-refurbished
facility Stadium Banadir in Mogadishu on either 16th or 17th of February,
but I can now confirm that the much awaited friendly match has been
postponed” Somali Football Federation (SFF) director of communication
Shafi’i Mohyaddin Abokar, said in a press statement on Thursday.

“We are waiting to hear from the Eritrean Football Federation to inform us
the new date of the arrival of their delegation in Mogadishu” the
statement added.

“The president of Somali Football Federation and his Eritrean counterpart
are both committed and the final arrangements will soon be completed. The new date for the friendly match will be communicated in due course” SFF
communication director, Shafi’i Mohyaddin Abokar, explained in his
statement.

It was in 2016, when Somali Football Federation announced its willingness
to reopen the country to the hosting of International football matches
after nearly 30 years and the SFF now believes that the time for Somalia
to play its home games in Mogadishu has arrived.

“Eritrea is expected to be the first country hosted in Somalia since 1988
and we will then plan to invite some other African countries” SFF
communication director said.
