Editor's note

The UN’s highest court has ruled that the UK should return the disputed Chagos Islands to Mauritius. Miriam Bak McKenna says the judgement calls time on British colonialism and offers hope to others living under the last vestiges of empire.

One year ago 11 Congolese refugees in Rwanda were killed when they demonstrated against food aid reductions. These came about due to funding shortfalls. Evan Easton-Calabria explains that one-way agencies and government are trying to address this challenge is to push refugees towards becoming self-reliant.
