As the world battles the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s a lot that nations can learn from each other’s public policy interventions. But since societies differ in their stages of development, each country must import what has worked elsewhere and tailor it to its own specific set of socio-economic circumstances. Sam Jones, Eva-Maria Egger and Ricardo Santos outline a lockdown readiness index that could help developing countries quickly determine whether their citizens can afford to isolate themselves at home.

The world has bet most of its research funding on finding a vaccine and effective drugs to tackle the coronavirus. Some scientists are predicting that a vaccine may be ready in 2021. But what if it's not, and what should be done in the meantime to manage the pandemic? Tammy Hoffmann and Paul Glasziou explore some options.
