3rd Conference of the Eritrean Languages and Cultural Awareness.Winnipeg Canada.

The 3rd  CONFERENCE OF THE  ERITREAN LANGUAGES AND CULTURAL AWARENESS SCHOOL IN WINNIPEG  Canada

Will take place on Sunday November 19th  2017 at   05:00 p.m Eritrean Community Center 346 Hargrave

The  Eritrean Languages and Cultural Awareness School  (ELCAS) will Celebrate  its 10th year since it's first Conference .

  The  Eritrean Languages and Cultural Awareness school has served more that 600 children in the last ten years.It has been serving 50 to 80 children per year. Generated the summer learning program that runs for 6 weeks every year -Monday to Friday full day -with 120 children registered in the summer of 2017.  Employed  18 teachers in the course of ten years and employees 5to 8 teachers per years. It is administered  by the  Board of the Parents Council that has 6-12 elected  members( every two years).

        Background on Conferences:
  1.   The first Conference was held at Gordon Bell School Winnipeg  in 2008. It aimed at re-establishing the Heritage School and lay the foundations  of a multicultural approach to the Eritrean Languages and Cultural Awareness School  (teaching more than one Eritrean language as per need and demand). The Cultural Awareness and the inclusiveness of all Eritrean Nationalities Culture in all it's expressions  was an integral part of the Curriculum.         for more visit  www.eritreancommunity.ca
  2.   The 2nd conference that took place in  March of 2014 was an assessment of the the Program and the recommendations helped improve the program.
  3.   The 3rd conference is supposed to aim an overall assessment of 10 Years of Eritrean Languages and Cultural Awareness School and will focus on the following points:

  1.    Increase participation of students and make the school  more accessible and inclusive.
  2.    Improve quality of curriculum meet the need of all potential levels and  consider advanced level classes
  3.  Diversify program . Include other languages-as per need- and sports  entertainment  and sports activities
  4. Coordinate with other parental and youth activities that take place during the Saturday.  Looking in to transportation solution for Newcomer parents.
  5. Adding new members to the present Board. Enhance Human resources . Include experienced Newcomers  in the Board .
  6. Enhance the Unity of the Eritrean residents of Winnipeg Canada  by bringing children and parents.
  7. Coordinate Summer activities -Summer full time Programs and Sports activities in One curriculum.     
  8.   The conference will take place   Sunday November 19th  2017 at   04:00 p.m Eritrean Community Center 346 Hargrave
  9.  The board of the School and the Eritrean Community Inc.  provided these resolutions  on Tuesday November 7th at 06:30 the the Eritrean Community center to finalized plans with all stakeholders  input .
  10. The conference will also bring the Youth, the University students to give their input on the on issues of youth, inter-generational an current issues and challenges of Eritrean Youth in the Diaspora  Mental Health, welcoming newcomers and promotion of Education.
