"It was a tragic arrival," said the mayor of the city, Roberto Ammatuna, the agency ADN Kronos. "They were all just skin and bones, as if they were coming from a Nazi concentration camp, desperate people, malnourished, it was terrible." Among the rescued were also children.
The aid organization Pro Activa Open Arms, on whose ship the migrants had arrived, wrote on Twitter that the man from Eritrea had been stuck in Libya for 19 months.
