Eyewear designer and owner of eyewear brand L.G.R, Luca Gnecchi Ruscone, has launched a collection of spectacles to celebrate the company’s ten-year anniversary.

The inspiration behind the collection is drawn from a trip that the designer made to his grandfather’s factory and optical store in Eritrea, where he discovered a box of colonial period sunglasses.

After taking the sunglasses back to Italy, Mr Ruscone created the Heritage Limited collection inspired by the elegance of the era and scenery in Africa.

The launch includes four new models ‘Asmara’, ‘Casablanca’, ‘Keren’ and ‘Reunion’ made from matt acetate and equipped with polarized tempered mineral glass lenses.

The frames are available in a range of colour combinations including red and black, orange and black and gold and black.

The designs feature small slits, inspired by the lines of the three-light window of his grandfather’s photography store, Foto Ottica Bini in the suburbs of Asmara, an Italian colony in Eritrea.

Speaking about the collection, Mr Ruscone said: “Some years ago, I was in Eritrea, Africa, wandering through my grandfather’s old warehouse of Italian imports, when I discovered a model of sunglasses from a time long forgotten. These beautiful designs immediately evoked the romanticism of an era long gone by. The merging of two worlds; the adventure of Africa and the glamour of the Riviera. I returned to the original manufacturers and created a line capturing this timeless elegance.”
