Egyptian Foreign Minister discusses the security of the Red Sea with the Eritrean President

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Choukri conveyed an oral message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki during his visit to the Eritrean capital Asmara on the bilateral relations between the two countries and means of developing them in various fields.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, said in a press statement distributed in Cairo today that the two sides discussed the recent positive developments in the Horn of Africa and the importance of enhancing regional cooperation from a comprehensive perspective to the benefit of all. To support stability, security and peace in that region.

He added that Shukri's meeting with the Eritrean president touched upon the issue of the security of the Red Sea and the importance of enhancing cooperation between the riparian countries on the Red Sea as the owner of the property and the main interest in this regard. He also discussed the situation in South Sudan, Somalia and Yemen, And the priorities of Egypt's presidency of the African Union next year.

The spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that President Afewerki stressed the centrality of the Egyptian role in the Horn of Africa and expressed appreciation for Egypt's role in achieving peace and stability in the region.
