Egypt welcomes the signing of the Jeddah Peace Agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 17th, the Arab Republic of Egypt welcomed the signing of the Jeddah Peace Agreement between the Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, in the presence of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and appreciated the esteemed efforts of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz in sponsoring the agreement.

The statement added that the signing of the agreement represents an important development in the Horn of Africa and the entire continent, as it entails the end and settlement of the conflict between the two sisterly countries, while pointing out Egypt's aspiration to entrench security, peace, and stability in the Horn of Africa in favor of the peoples of the region.​
