Ethiopian, Italian Premiers Hold Talks On Ways To Advance Bilateral Cooperation

Addis Ababa, October 12, 2018 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed and his Italian counterpart, Giuseppe Conte, held talks on ways to promote bilateral cooperation here yesterday.

The visiting Italian Premier was also hosted to a state dinner by Prime Minister Dr Abiy at the National Palace last night.

During the talks, the two sides agreed to cooperate in infrastructure, investment, and trade.

Moreover, they vowed to collaborate in rehabilitating refugees and returnee solders as well as financing mega projects, among others.

PM Conte on the occasion called on Italian investors to cooperate with Ethiopia by taking advantage of the peace deal reached between Ethiopia and Eritrea and the ongoing reform in this country.

PM Conte also invited his Ethiopian counterpart PM Dr Abiy to visit Italy in 2019.

The Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe arrived in Ethiopia yesterday for a two-day official visit.

He is expected to travel to Eritrea today where he will meet President Isaias Afewerki.

PM Conte’s mission wants to be a support to the peace deal signed between Ethiopia and Eritrea last July after nearly 20 years of stalemate.

Italy President Sergio Mattarella visited Addis Ababa in 2016.
