Eritrean President Isayas Afeworki arrived just arrived at Emperor Tewodros II Airport in Gonder. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and residents of Gondar City received him at the airport, according to a report by the regional state media, Amhara Mass Media Agency (AMMA).
This is his third visit to Ethiopian in about three months time.
The office of Prime Minister announced earlier today that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed officially invited Eritrean and Somalian presidents to Ethiopia to continue tripartite talk to hasten economic integration in the region. Somalia president Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo has not yet arrived.
President Isayas Afeworki is also expected to hold discussion with the Amhara regional leaders including the region’s president, Gedu Andargachew. However, it is unclear as to what the agenda items are for discussion.
A lot of Eritreans live in the city of Gondar and the region used to share border with Eritrea before Wolkait region was taken by Tigray regional state.
Isayas Afeworki and his Somalian president are scheduled to visit historical sites in the region.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed arrived in Gonder a day before the arrival of Isayas Afeworki and held talks with residents over the controversial Wolkait issue and Kimant community issue.
